Training
Freedom from Hunger is first and foremost a training organization. We have distinctive competencies in training design and training delivery for senior executives of financial service and social service organizations, for supervisory and training staff, for field staff, and for literate and illiterate adults and adolescents in poor communities. A distinctive common feature of our technical staff, including the President, is that all have been trained to be trainers and advisors to other organizations in various aspects of adding value to microfinance. About 20 current staff of Freedom from Hunger have trained staff of partner organizations in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean—in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Haitian Creole.
Freedom from Hunger staff have trained others to
- be trainers and trainers of trainers;
- build back-office capacity for microfinance management;
- offer group-based savings and lending;
- integrate non-financial services with microfinance services;
- design training events, training guides and training curricula;
- design and manage adult education systems;
- develop social performance management skills and systems; and
- and conduct impact evaluation and market research.
Freedom from Hunger custom-builds training events to suit the purposes of organizations that share our commitment to supporting the self-help efforts of the very poor, especially women, who come together in groups for access to combinations of financial, educational and health services. We encourage groups of organizations or networks that wish to learn about value-added microfinance together to contact us. Most of our trainings can be easily adapted for multi-institutional trainings, and we encourage institutions to take advantage of the cost-sharing and learning opportunities created by learning together.
To engage Freedom from Hunger for training or training design, please contact Edouine François, Director, Training Services via e-mail to education@freedomfromhunger.org. The full cost of such training must be paid by the organization(s) seeking the training and/or by access to third-party funding (usually a grant to the client organization or to Freedom from Hunger, or both). If a long-term partnership seems desirable to both parties, Freedom from Hunger will work with the prospective partner organization to solicit third-party funding. Acceptance of training requests is subject to the availability of Freedom from Hunger staff and alignment of the request with our strategic objectives. Freedom from Hunger prioritizes engagement with organizations that seek to improve the lives of the poor by adding value to microfinance.
